How to prepare your cat or dog for vaccination
-
Come when your pet is well. If your pet has vomiting, diarrhea, fever or is not eating, tell the vet, as the shot may need to wait.
-
Bring the old vaccine card or the records from the breeder, shelter or previous vet.
-
Tell the vet if your pet has ever had a reaction to a vaccine.
-
Bring cats in a closed carrier. Use a collar and leash for dogs, and carry small puppies in your arms or a carrier.
-
Keep kittens and puppies indoors and away from unknown animals until the full vaccine course is done.
-
After the shot, a little tiredness or a sore spot for a day or two is common. If you see face swelling, repeated vomiting or trouble breathing, come back right away.
