Neutering (castration) is a routine surgery that helps a male cat or dog live a calmer, healthier life, with less urge to spray, roam and fight. When to neuter
Cornell University's vet college suggests neutering male cats at around 3 to 6 months old. Adult cats and dogs can be neutered too, once the vet confirms they are healthy enough for surgery.
After the surgery

Keep your pet indoors and calm for the first few days

Stop your pet licking the wound with a cone or a surgical suit

Give only the medicines the vet prescribes. Human painkillers such as paracetamol and ibuprofen are harmful to pets

Neutering is a quicker surgery than spaying, and most cats are back to normal within two weeks.
