FIP Test and Treatment for Cats in Dhaka

Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) is a serious disease caused by a mutated form of feline coronavirus. It is most common in young cats, especially those under 2 years old. At Furmillion Veterinary Clinic, 15/2 Tajmahal Road, Mohammadpur, Dhaka, our vets test for FIP, give supportive care and explain your cat’s treatment options.

Open 365 days a year, 10am to 9pm. Call or WhatsApp 01600-011644 to book an FIP check.

FIP can look like many other illnesses. The sooner your cat is checked, the sooner treatment can start.

Signs of FIP in cats

  • Fever that does not go away with antibiotics

  • Swollen belly from fluid build-up, or fast or hard breathing (wet FIP)

  • Weight loss, poor appetite and low energy

  • Yellow gums, skin or eyes

  • Eye changes, wobbly walking or seizures (dry FIP)

Wet FIP usually gets worse quickly. Dry FIP moves more slowly but is harder to spot. A cat can also move from one form to the other.

FIP test cost at Furmillion

  • Feline coronavirus (FCoV) kit test, used as part of an FIP check: antibody BDT 800, antigen BDT 700

  • Rivalta test on belly or chest fluid: BDT 400

  • CBC: BDT 900, CBC with blood film: BDT 1,500

  • Kidney function test: BDT 1,200, liver function test: BDT 2,100

  • Whole abdomen ultrasound: BDT 1,800

  • Consultation: from BDT 600

No single test confirms FIP. A positive antibody test only shows that your cat has met feline coronavirus, which most cats do. Our vets put together the exam, blood work, fluid tests and ultrasound to reach a diagnosis. A negative Rivalta test makes FIP much less likely.

FIP treatment in Dhaka

FIP was once almost always fatal. Newer antiviral treatments have changed this in many countries. Our vet will explain the options for your cat, how long treatment usually lasts and what to expect.

At Furmillion, our vets:

  • Give supportive treatment, such as fluids, draining fluid from the belly or chest, and care for fever and appetite

  • Explain your cat’s treatment options and what to expect

  • Check your cat regularly during treatment, with weight and blood tests to track progress

Supportive treatment cost depends on your cat's weight, the form of FIP and how sick your cat is. The vet will explain the cost after diagnosis.

FIP questions

  • Is FIP contagious to other cats? Feline coronavirus spreads easily between cats through shared litter boxes, but the mutated form that causes FIP rarely passes from one cat to another.

  • Can people or dogs catch FIP? No. FIP only affects cats.

  • How much is an FIP test in Bangladesh? At Furmillion, the feline coronavirus kit test used in an FIP check is BDT 700 to 800, and a Rivalta test is BDT 400. The vet combines these with other tests before diagnosing FIP.
